Camarillo State Hospital
|
Setting |
| The old hospital campus is located just outside Camarillo, California, off South Lewis Road, about five miles from the Pacific Ocean at Point Mugu. A leisurely mile-long drive takes you past lemon orchards, native hillside chaparral and trees on the way to the campus itself. Below is what the visitor sees along the way. | |
The Santa Monica mountains rise abruptly from the
flatness of the Oxnard plain. Covered only with scrub vegetation,
they turn pastel colors in the late afternoon light.
|
Looking northeast from the campus toward
Camarillo. This field, as much of the land between the town and
the campus, is often planted in vegetable crops.
|
Sheltered valley where deer often graze at dusk.
The palm trees may indicate that a house stood on this spot at one time.
|
Whimsical rock formations jut from the hillside at the
edge of the campus. The road passes by the sycamores in mid-photo.
