      December Hike - Page 3

A view into the ravine where our
hike will take us.  Note the trail
of color down the canyon from
sycamore trees turned intense
colors by an unusually chilly fall.

Characteristically rocky slopes greet us on our descent into the canyon.

Once in the ravine, the visitor is shaded by oaks and sycamores.  California oaks tend to have a bonsaied appearance because... well, because they are bonsaied.  They get very little water.  While visitors from regions with greater rainfall often find our oaks rather odd-looking, we find their shapes quite beautiful.

Path with fallen sycamore leaves

My sons pause at creekside while Mom gets out
the camera to take yet another picture.

The trail is full of small beauties, such as these yellow
and brown sycamore leaves at rest in the trickling
waters of the stream.
